Fern Creek Publications is a division of Fern Creek Arts that features new books from up and coming author, Elisa Hedgpath, as well as other talents. Books are an important part of learning, be it a child learning his or her colors or an adult learning about a new trade or a particular interest; Fern Creek Arts recognizes both the importance of learning and the value of a good book. Fern Creek Publications aims to merge these values by providing books by some of the best authors that the Carolinas have to offer, books that are both beautiful to look at and contain important information. The current project being promoted by Fern Creek Publications is a children’s book by author Elisa Hedgpath.
Elisa’s new book, The Adventures of Bobby and Billy: Patriotic Biscuits, is the story of two boys who recount their first experience interacting with soldiers. The story is set in Chester County, South Carolina, and is based on a story that Elisa’s father told her many years ago. In the story, the United States is on the verge of entering World War II. As the soldiers get ready to leave for Europe, they engage a training session called the Carolina Maneuvers. Bobby and Billy are observers and look to find any method to obtaining an up close and personal experience with the soldiers, deciding finally to trade them the most delicious homemade biscuits for souvenirs. They spend a lot of time with the soldiers, who tell them stories about the families they have left to go fight for the United States in the war and in the process learn an important lesson in patriotism and sacrifice, realizing that the soldiers give up much of themselves so that the rest of us can be free. The Adventures of Bobby and Billy: Patriotic Biscuits is currently in the editing phase. Elisa is working with Editor Amanda E. Clark, of Grammar Chic, Inc. and is currently in the query phase, shopping her manuscript to a variety of publishers. This character children’s book teaches the reader to be accepting of differences in others, even though you may not understand or think that the choice someone else is making is the right one. The book focuses on acceptance and diversity through a carefully tailored message designed specifically with a child in mind. This beautiful book was professionally illustrated by established children’s book illustrator, Ryan Durney, and the lesson that is taught is one that was carefully formulated and crafted through the author’s years as a professional guidance counselor in the public school system.
